Memorable Music, BK Davis Style

BK Davis Multi-talented composer, singer and Steinway artist, BK Davis, creates memorable music. What sets Davis apart from other pianists is that he’s listed among the 250 living worldwide international Steinway artists who own, play and record exclusively on Steinway pianos. His Concert Grand Model B, was a gift from his wife Rasheen. “BK put his career on hold when I was undergoing chemotherapy,” she said. Having a convert grand at home, she explained, enabled BK to compose and record music and be there for her and their two young children, Aallyah and Abram.

BK, who has traveled the world and speaks five languages, began writing music at the age of 12. After serving in the U.S. Army he continue his musical studies at Western Illinois University. In his 20s he created jungles for commercials and experienced great success composing and recording original songs on his own label. “Music led me in different direction,” he said. An accomplished vocalist, guitarist, orangish and drummer, BK has led gospel choirs jazz bands, and performed as a guest artist on a number of recordings. A great admirer of Leonard Bernstein and Henry Mancini, BK has entertained audiences in the U.S. and abroad working with Billy Preston, Gerald Albright,  B.B. King and Frankie Avalon Jr., to name a few.

Rasheen, a former Corporate Analyst is a vendor of antiqu and rare books at the Galleria Mall in Punta Gorda where the couple’s second Steinway piano is located. She assists BK in the publication and distribution of DVDs, CDs and education material. Rasheen writes poetry and is working on a biography about BK entitled “The Ivory Towers.”

BK’s publication entitled “Explanation of the Proper Use and Function of the Lydiann Scale” and other teaching tolls or recordings can be ordered at Teaching seminars and/or lectures may be books there as well. BK and Rasheen are currently assisting amputee Terry Harper, a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of BK’s album, a mixture of originals and standards, is a frequent headliner on Friday evenings at the Fox Jazz Club, an upscale Tampa restaurant located at 5401 W. Kennedy Blvd. The BK Davis Quartet performs two 90- minute shows beginning at 8:30 p.m. his quartet includes Greg Smith on guitar, Dean Wise on bass, and Alan Feinman on drums. Back-up musicians include Mike Mirth, Glenn Meyers and Jennifer Medina. Locally, he often performs at Porto Bello’s Restaurant, 3200 Matecumbe Key road, Punta Forda. During the holidays, he performs at the Longboat Key Club and Resort, a private club, and is available to entertain at private parties.
